The Vita & Dist. Resource Council consist of Volunteers who donate their time to organize different programs. This non-profit organization aims to provide services to seniors. The following three programs are running at this time:
The Councils mandate is to provide services that can help seniors maintain their independence and continue to live safely in their own homes as long as possible.
The Seniors are charged a fee for the following services:- Lifeline - This is a 24 hour monitoring system that allows seniors to continue to live in their homes with safety and security.
- Footcare - $30 per session
A nurse provides procedures such as toe nail clipping, massaging, dealing with dry skin, calluses, and corns.
- Housecleaning & Laundry - $8 per hour for basic cleaning and laundry. $10 per hour for heavy cleaning (washing walls, ceilings, and windows).
- Snow removal, handyman chores & grass cutting - fee charged according to job size
- Transportation - a basic rate of $5 applies within Vita. $35 to Steinbach and $75 to Winnipeg. Anywhere else will be 30 per Kilometer
The Resource Office for Seniorsis located at the Shady Oak Lodge Suite 13, 132 Drull Ave., Vita Monday to Friday : 8:00 - 4:30

- Information - a service that answers questions about resources, services, and programs
ERIK - Emergency Response Information Kit provides necessary Information for Emergencey personnel to respond quickly to your situation. Ideal for older adults, those living alone, people with disabilities, those with chronic illnesses or anyone that has communication challenges. ERIK speaks on your behalf.
Classes offered: Get Better Together, Livin it Up, Mature Driver Worksop Exercise Classes: Tuesdays (chair exercises) and Fridays (walking program and Tai Chi)

The Congregate Meal Program operates from the kitchen of the Shady Oak Lodge at Vita Monday,Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
Delicious, nutritious meals are served at noon in the dining room of the Lodge or delivered by volunteers to the homes of seniors in the town of Vita. Meals consist of soup or salad, main course, dessert, and beverage.
Meals can be ordered anytime by leaving a message on the answering machine or by calling Linda before 9:30 on the morning of the meal. The answering machine also provides information regarding the menu for each day.

The Seniors Activity Programoperates from the Ukrainian Catholic Parish Centre, 314 Main St., Vita Thursdays: 10 am - 3:30 pm
The program is available to seniors who are recommended by Home Care as benefiting from activities such as visiting, games, exercises, singing, crafts, and entertainment. It provides a pleasant outing for seniors and a change in daily routine for family care givers. A qualified staff member and volunteers carry out the program.
The cost of $5.60 per day includes morning and afternoon snacks, a nutritious noon meal, transportation, and activity expenses.
