About Us

The Program:
This is a community owned program to assist and facilitate seniors (age 55 plus) and the disabled to remain independent, safe and comfortable  in their own homes for as long as they are able.

The Council & Funding:
The council consists of representatives from the governments, senior clubs, local churches and service organizations. The funding is provided by governments and annual donations.

The Resource Coordinator:
This is the person who will assist you in meeting your need of service. Just give a call with your concerns.



Free Services


Telecheck:
This is a daily “hello” reasurring seniors that they are not alone. Helping  to reduce the worry of family friends.

Friendly Visit:
A volunteer donates his or her time sharing hobbies, reading aloud from the newspaper, discussing books and everyday affairs, watching sports, going for a walk, writing letters, etc.

Escort:
A volunteer can assist a senior with shopping banking, accompany to doctors appointments or similar activities. A volunteer can help carry parcels, open doors, give rides to the store, and find some articles that are difficult to reach or see in the store.

Information/Forms:
Help seniors access information and help complete forms appropriately.

Wheels-to-Meals:
Provide transportation to congregate meal programs.

Adopt-A-Grandparent:
A chance to have your own grandchild close by when your grandchild lives far away from you.

Banking:
A volunteer can either bake for, or bake with, a senior at senior’s or volunteer’s home.

Community Volunteer Income Tax Program:
Trained volunteers will complete your tax return at no charge (subject to meeting eligibility guidelines).

Red Cross Medical Equipment Loans Service (MELS):
Crutches, canes, walkers and wheelchairs available for loan.

Men’s Chat Group:
Meets once a week for cards, checkers and conversation.

Caregivers Support Group:
Meets once a month for mutual support and discussion.


Services You Pay For

Housekeeping:
Regular light housekeeping, vacuuming and dusting, or the heavy house-cleaning, such as “spring/fall” cleaning are available.

Handihelper:
Year-round, help is provided to help you do things you are unable to do yourself such as snow removal (even from your roof), painting, changing storm windows, fixing door locks, cleaning eaves trough, or whatever help you require.

Laundry:
Dirty laundry may be cleaned in your own home, taken to the Laundromat or to the worker’s home and returned to you.

Yard Maintenance:
Yard work, snow removal, grass cutting, raking leaves, trimming hedges or other odd jobs you need done.

Transportation:
Volunteers donate their time to provide transportation to medical appointments, shopping or social outings, both locally or out-of-town. A fee will be charged per kilometers driven.

Seniors living alone have the assurance of being safe and secure. A simple press of a button can bring emergency help if required.
