Seniors Access to Independent Living - SAIL

The purpose of S.A.I.L. is to assist senior and disabled persons to continue living independently and with dignity in their homes/apartments as long as possible.

Objectives:

  • To identify the existing resources and services that are presently available to assist seniors and disabled persons in the community.
  • To identify the gaps in existing resources and services available.
  • To help identify senior and disabled persons in the community who are in need.
  • To help facilitate access to and delivery of resources and services to seniors and disabled persons in the community.
Organize the delivery of:
  • Congregate meals prepared at the Elkview Lodge. Nutritious meals are served at the Elkview Lodge on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 12 noon. Attendance or home delivery can be arranged for the above meal programs for people who meet the criteria for needing such a service.
  • Meals on Wheels prepared at the Elkwood Manor. Based on criteria, Meals on Wheels are available for delivery. Call your S.A.I.L. Co-ordinator for information.

Services:

  • Provide Emergency Response Information Kits: known as ERIK Kits.
  • Organize a FLU CLINIC every year.
  • Install LIFELINE for those in need of this service.
  • Help locate volunteers for Doctor’s appointments and for delivery of meals.
  • Help with booking the Handivan.
  • Friendly Visiting: Volunteers are available to spend time with shut-ins.
  • Foot Care: Proper foot care is very important. Trained personnel provide Foot Care Clinics. Call for times and locations.

Fee For Service
Cost $13.00 per hour.
  • Raking
  • Snow shoveling and snow blowing
  • Minor Repairs
  • Small household jobs
  • Windows washing
  • Errands and other needs
