WHAT IS P.S.S.S? (Plumas Senior Support Services)A program designed to offer support services to seniors of our community, enabling them to enjoy independence for as long as possible.
P.S.S.S. is part of a provincial Senior Support Services Program responsible to the Central Region Health Authority.
Operations and decisions are managed by a local volunteer Board of Directors.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?Any senior or disabled person who wishes to live independently in his/her own home is encouraged to use this program.
Victoria Lifeline Emergency Response UnitsServing as a satellite program for the Victoria Lifeline System, P.S.S.S. helps potential clients with the application for, and the installation of these emergency response units. This service assures subscribers and family members that continuous assistance is only a button press away.
House Help & Yard MaintenanceThe resource coordinator can put you in touch with a ‘fee for service’ provider. Typical services include grass cutting, garden tilling, housekeeping and snow removal, however, other services may also be provided at a client’s request. The cost of the service is based on the type of assistance required and whether the worker must provide their own equipment. The cost agreement is to be made between the client and service provider.
Foot CareA trained foot care worker is available for service in Plumas. The nurse visits our community approximately every 6 weeks.

NewsletterThe Senior Sun newsletter keeps community members informed of local activities as well as providing a little entertainment, advertising, and information and announcements on a variety of topics. Community members are invited to submit articles, or share news. This newsletter is distributed to all mail boxes in the Plumas post office.
Equipment LoansAt present we have a variety of equipment for loan. Thanks to Palliative Care, we even have portable wheel chair ramps! If you require a piece of equipment we do not have on hand, the coordinator may be able to arrange this for you.
Congregate Meals/Meals on WheelsThis meal program is available to any senior 55 years of age and older in Plumas and its surrounding area. Meals are served five days a week (Mon-Fri) at noon. The current cost per meal is $4.50. It is requested that a meal be ordered the day prior. Please call Sherri or Leanne for more information. The phone number for the kitchen is 386-2761.
TransportationThe driver/escort program will provide transportation for purposes such as medical appointments, shopping, social trips, etc.
When calculating all destinations use .30 cents per kilometer. The amount charged for trips is to reimburse the volunteer driver for operating costs. There is no charge for the drivers time. Below is an approximate cost for the following destinations leaving from Plumas:Gladstone - $18.00 Neepawa - $27.00 Portage - $63.00 Brandon - $75.00 Winnipeg - $108.00 St. Boniface
Handi-VanThe Handi-Van is available to Plumas and area residents. There is a charge per kilometer and for waiting time. The Handi-Van will not charge the mileage to come from and return to Gladstone. For more information, please call Foxon Agencies Ltd. 385-2993.
Central Plains Cancer CareDo you or does someone you know have cancer?A volunteer driver program has been put in place by Central Plains Cancer Care. If you have cancer and are in need of a ride to an appointment, there are drivers available in our area to take you. A flat fee of $15.00 is charged for all rides. The patient may also have a friend or family member accompany him/her. For more information about this program, and a list of drivers, contact your seniors resource coordinator.

Palliative care focuses on meeting the needs of individuals and families who are living with or dying from a progressive life-threatening disease. This care provides support and comfort to both patient and the family, whether in hospital or at home.

The drop-in center has shuffle boards, cribbage boards, cards, games, pool, puzzles and a Monday night bingo. There are occasional pot lucks, socials, and tournaments. For membership information, please call a representative from the seniors board. The Plumas Seniors Hall is available to be rented by the public.
