Community Age-Friendly Priorities, Actions, and Challenges
Age-Friendly Photography Study: Summary of Discussion Group Carman, Manitoba. This is a summary of one of several discussion groups held with seniors in Manitoba as part of a larger program of research on age-friendliness. In March of 2008, seniors from Carman were invited to be part of a research study about agefriendly communities through the Centre on Aging at the University of Manitoba. As part of the project, seniors took photographs within their community to show agefriendly features and barriers to age-friendliness. In June of 2008 the group of seniors came together to talk about age-friendly priorities, actions, and challenges within their community. The following is a summary of the priorities, actions and challenges identified by the group of seniors. Go

Age Friendly Project Update
  • Automatic doors will be installed at the Carman Active Living Centre and at the Carman Community Hall
  • Two presentations of the " Across the Generations" were made to Grade 5 classes at Carman Elementary. This program is designed to promote positive attitudes towards seniors.
  • We are checking out sidewalks and curbs that need to be lowered for easier access for walkers and scooters.
  • We want to develop a community resource booklet for seniors and are working with a local social work student to develop this resource.
