The Gordon Howard Centre is....
a membership based multi purpose Senior Centre which sets examples of healthy living styles for older adults.


Membership cost is $25.00 per year. Members are entitled to enjoy lower rates for activities, programs & voting privileges at our Annual General Meeting.

  • Our Centre offers the following programs & services....
    • Information and Referral Services

    • Recreational Activities (fitness, bingo, cribbage, whist, dancing, etc.)

    • Educational Programming (computer instruction, monthly health & well-being workshops)

    • Health Clinics (foot care, blood pressure, diabetes & hearing)

    • Outreach Services (hospital visits & birthday calls)

    • Weekly Meal Program

    • Volunteer Opportunities (reception desk, bingo, building maintenance, etc.)


    Selkirk District Support Services

    These are community based services that are designed to assist those +55, physically challenged or convalescing to maintain their independent living status.


    Lifeline
    Lifeline has been in operation for the past 13 years within our community providing peace of mind, independence and security to both the subscribers and their families. Go

    Meals On Wheels
    The food feeds the body but the wonderful people doing the delivery feed the soul with their caring. Go

    Driver Escort Service
    Provides transportation for seniors to and from medical appointments as well as personal errands. Go

    The Handy Helper Program
    The handy helper program is a year round program designed to aid seniors in finding people to do odd jobs and maintenance work at reasonable rates. Go

    Friendly Visiting:
    Often seniors who are shut-in due to age and or health problems do not have the opportunity to socialize.  The friendly visiting program was designed to offer these seniors the opportunity to still take part in an active social life.  Research shows that maintaining some type of social stimulation does in fact have a reflection on our over all health and well-being.  Even if the visits are only once or twice a month and brief in length, it is still believed to have a positive impact on ones health.

    TheTelecheck Buddy Program
    This program operates on an honor system.  Two clients with similar interests are matched up to give each other a daily phone call at a pre-set time.   This program ensures that everything is well with each client and it also stimulates a friendly conversation once a day providing a social contact.

    hot nutritious meals offered at various Senior Apartment Blocks in the city of Selkirk. Go

    Emergency Response Information Kits
    The Emergency Response Information Kits (Erik) are designed to ensure that critical information is available to paramedics and other health professionals in the event of an emergency. Go
